Warning: This is NOT an Easy Test.
Welcome to Set-09. Until now, you have solved moderate level questions in Set-07 (PYQ) and Set-08 (Marathon). But the real exam is unpredictable.
Why practice a Hard Set?
In SSC GD, some shifts are deliberately made difficult. In such shifts, the cutoff goes down, and students get Bonus Marks (Normalization). This mock test simulates that “Hard Shift”.
What makes this set difficult?
- Statement Based GK: Instead of asking “Who”, we ask “Which statement is correct”.
- Tricky Reasoning: Complex Series and Seating Arrangements.
- Deep Science: Chemical names and advanced biology.
- Passing Score: 24/40 (Yes, the cutoff is low here).
- Strategy: Don’t guess. If you don’t know, SKIP it. Negative marking will destroy your score in hard papers.

Mastering the Hard Shift: SSC GD Normalization Secret
Many students cry after coming out of the exam hall saying, “The paper was very tough!”. But did you know that a tough paper is actually a blessing in disguise? In this Set-09 Advanced Mock Test, we intentionally increased the difficulty level to explain the concept of Normalization.
1. How Normalization Works? (Simple Explanation)
SSC conducts exams in multiple shifts. Some shifts get easy questions, some get hard ones. To make it fair, SSC uses a formula.
- Scenario A (Easy Shift): If the average student scores 120, and you score 125, your final marks might remain 125 or decrease slightly.
- Scenario B (Hard Shift): If the average student scores only 80, and you score 90, SSC will add bonus marks. Your 90 can become 105 or 110!
Lesson: In a hard paper, Accuracy is King. Do not mark wrong answers just to increase attempts.
2. Advanced Topics List (For Toppers)
If you want to be in the top 1%, you must study these “Hidden Topics” that average students skip:
| Subject | Hard Topics to Cover |
|---|---|
| Economics | Five Year Plans (Deep Details), RBI Monetary Policy, GDP vs GNP. |
| Science | Periodic Table Trends, pH Values of Acid/Base, Plant Kingdom. |
| Geography | Tribes of India, Ocean Currents, Atmosphere Layers. |
| Polity | Writs (Habeas Corpus etc.), Schedules 1-12, Emergency details. |
For deep study of Economics and Five Year Plans, you can refer to the NITI Aayog Official Website.
3. The “Skip Method” Strategy
In Set-09, you might have faced questions like “Which river cuts Tropic of Cancer twice?” (Answer: Mahi). If you didn’t know this, the best strategy was to SKIP.
Rule of Thumb:
- Round 1 (0-30 mins): Solve only 100% sure questions.
- Round 2 (30-50 mins): Solve questions where you can eliminate 2 options.
- Round 3 (Last 10 mins): Re-check calculations. Do not touch unknown GK questions.
You have conquered the Hard Level. Now, only one step remains.
- Revise Set-08 (GK Marathon) – Build Speed.
Conclusion:
Do not get demotivated if you scored low in this set. This was designed to be tough. Analyze your weak areas and revise the “Hard Topics” mentioned above.
