📉 Tough Competition

Since B.Ed is removed, competition among D.El.Ed candidates has intensified. The cut-off is expected to rise.

📚 Huge Syllabus

Child Development (CDP) and Pedagogy are new subjects for many. It takes at least 6 months to master them.

Can 1st Year Students Apply? 🎓
Many D.El.Ed students are confused about the “Appearing” rule. Can you apply if your 1st-year result is not out? In the next section, we will clarify the Detailed Eligibility Criteria and Passing Marks (90 vs 82).

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)

To sit for the WB Primary TET 2026, you must meet the standards set by the NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education). The criteria are strict regarding educational qualification.

1. Educational Qualification 📚

There are two main components: Your 12th Class Marks and your Training Qualification.

  • Condition A (Academic): Must have passed Senior Secondary (Class 12th) with at least 50% Marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PH).
  • PLUS (+)
  • Condition B (Professional): Must have passed a 2-Year D.El.Ed (Diploma in Elementary Education) from an NCTE recognized institute.
  • Note: 4-Year B.El.Ed or Diploma in Education (Special Education) candidates are also eligible.

🎓 Can ‘Appearing’ Students Apply?

Yes! Candidates who are “Pursuing” or “Appearing” in the final year of the 2-Year D.El.Ed course can apply.

Explanation: If you have cleared Part-1 exams or are enrolled in the final year/semester, you are fully eligible to sit for TET. You don’t need the final marksheet to apply.

2. Passing Marks (Cut-Off) ✅

TET is a qualifying exam. You don’t need to top it; you just need to cross the “Magic Number”.

Total Marks: 150 (No Negative Marking)

Category Percentage Required Marks Required (Out of 150)
General (Unreserved) 60% 90 Marks
SC / ST / OBC / PH 55% 82 Marks

💡 Good News: There is NO Negative Marking in WB Primary TET. You should attempt all 150 questions.

3. Age Limit (As on 01.01.2026)

  • Minimum Age: 18 Years.
  • Maximum Age: 40 Years (General).
  • Relaxation: 45 Years for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates.
  • Note: There is no upper age limit for in-service Para Teachers.

What to Study? 📖
Now that you know the target (90 or 82 Marks), you need to know the syllabus. The most difficult subject is Child Development & Pedagogy (CDP). In the next section, we will break down the Topic-Wise Syllabus for all 5 subjects.

Exam Pattern: 5 Subjects, 150 Marks

The WB Primary TET 2026 will be conducted in Offline Mode (OMR Sheet). The paper consists of 5 Sections, each carrying 30 Marks.

⚠️ The “Pedagogy” Twist: Unlike earlier years, the board now follows the CTET pattern. In every subject (Math, English, etc.), approx 50% of questions will be based on Pedagogy (Teaching Methodology).
