What is the Official Cut Off? 📉
This year, the Cut Off has shocked everyone! Why is it so low (49) compared to 2019 (65)? In the next section, we will analyze the Category-Wise Official Cut Off 2025 and compare it with previous years.
Official Cut Off Marks 2025 (Part-I)
The cut-off for the 2023 Cycle (Exam held in 2024) has been surprisingly low compared to the previous recruitment. This is a huge relief for many aspirants. Below is the category-wise breakdown approved by the Commission.
Category-Wise Qualifying Marks
| Category | Cut Off Marks (Out of 100) | Status |
|---|---|---|
| UR (General) | 49.00 | Qualified |
| OBC – A | 48.00 | Qualified |
| OBC – B | 48.00 | Qualified |
| SC | 47.00 | Qualified |
| ST | 29.00 | Qualified |
| EWS | 11.75 | Qualified |
| Ex-Servicemen | -2.00 (Wait, Negative?) | Yes, per norms. |
Comparison: 2019 vs 2025 Cut Off 📊
Why is the cut-off so low this year? Let’s compare it with the previous recruitment cycle (2019).
| Category | 2019 Cut Off | 2025 Cut Off | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| General | 65.00 | 49.00 | ⬇️ 16 Marks Drop |
| OBC – A | 43.00 | 48.00 | ⬆️ 5 Marks Rise |
| SC | 48.67 | 47.00 | ⬇️ 1.6 Marks Drop |
🧐 Why General Cut Off Dropped by 16 Marks?
- Difficulty Level: The 2024 Question Paper was significantly lengthy and tougher (especially GK & English) compared to 2019.
- More Candidates Qualified: WBPSC has qualified nearly 89,821 candidates this time (approx 15-20 times the vacancies), keeping the cut-off low to allow more students in Mains.
- EWS Effect: Introduction of the EWS category (Cut off only 11.75!) has shifted some General candidates, affecting the UR list.
How to Check Your Name in the List? 🔍
The merit list PDF is huge (containing 89,000+ names). Finding your name can be tricky. In the next section, we will provide the Direct PDF Download Link and a quick guide to search your Roll Number.

- Step 1: Download the PDF from the link above.
- Step 2: Open the file in any PDF Viewer (Adobe / Google Drive / WPS).
- Step 3: Use the Search Option:
- 💻 On Laptop/PC: Press Ctrl + F

- Step 4: Enter your Roll Number (e.g., 010256…). If your number is highlighted, Congratulations! You are qualified for Part-II.

If the search shows “No match found”, it means you did not clear the cut-off. Double-check your Roll Number from your Part-1 Admit Card. Do not type your Name; the list only contains Roll Numbers.
⚡ Immediate Action: Part-II Exam (28 Dec)
Since the Part-II (Conventional Type) Exam is scheduled for 28th December 2025 (Sunday), qualified candidates must not waste a single minute.
🕒 Exam Timing
11:00 AM to 12:00 PM (1 Hour Duration). Candidates must reach the center by 9:30 AM.
📝 Part-II Pattern
Group A: English (Drafting Report, Precis, Translation).
Group B: Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali (Drafting Report, Precis, Translation).
Final Selection Strategy 🏆
Part-1 marks will be ADDED to Part-2 marks for the final merit list. So, even if you scored just 49 in Part-1, you can still become a Clerk if you score high in Mains. In the final section, we will reveal the Part-II Syllabus Strategy and Final Merit Calculation logic.
How Final Selection Works? (The 1+1 Logic)
Many candidates make the mistake of thinking Part-I marks don’t matter now. WRONG! Unlike other exams, WBPSC Clerkship adds Part-I marks to the Final Merit List.
Example: If you scored 49 (Cut Off) in Part-I, you need to score very high (60+) in Part-II to be safe. If you scored 80 in Part-I, you are already in the safe zone.
⚡ Last Minute Tips for 28th Dec Exam
You have only 60 Minutes to write 6 Topics (3 English + 3 Bengali). Time management is the biggest challenge.
⏳ The 10-Minute Rule
Do not spend more than 10 minutes per question. Even if your Report is incomplete, move to the next question. Attempting all 6 questions is better than writing 3 perfect ones.
📝 Stick to Format
In Report Writing, format (Date, Place, Heading) carries marks. In Precis, giving a suitable Title is mandatory. Don’t forget these basics.
Stage 3: Computer Typing Test ⌨️
After Part-II results are out (likely in March 2026), selected candidates will be called for the Typing Test. This is qualifying in nature.
| Language Chosen | Required Speed | Accuracy |
|---|---|---|
| English | 20 Words Per Minute (WPM) | High accuracy preferred |
| Bengali | 10 Words Per Minute (WPM) | High accuracy preferred |
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is Part-1 Cut Off marks added to Final Merit List?
Yes, absolutely. The final merit list is prepared based on the aggregate marks of Part-I and Part-II (Total 200 Marks).
What is the safe score for Final Selection?
Considering the low cutoff in Part-1 (49), a total score of 110-120 (out of 200) is expected to be a safe score for General category candidates for final selection.
Can I choose Bengali for Typing Test?
Yes, you have to choose your typing language preference during the application or before the test. The speed required for Bengali is 10 WPM.
Will there be an Interview?
No, there is NO Interview for Clerkship posts. Selection is based purely on Written Exam (Part 1 + 2) and qualifying the Typing Test.
